We always build our Ripple Creek Homes with the highest quality materials. This includes what goes behind your walls. All electricity, HVAC, and insulation is the latest in regards to codes and standards. Which translates to a better temperature-controlled house and bigger savings on your monthly energy bill. But with places around the world breaking heat records, you might just need something a little extra to help you and your family stay cool on these hot summer days. With that in mind, here are some tried and true ways to beat the heat while at home.
Increased air flow can make a world of difference during times of peak heat. Position box fans, oscillating fans, or ceiling fans in strategic locations to circulate air effectively. Consider placing a bowl of ice in front of a fan to create a DIY air cooler.
Keep curtains and blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day to block out direct sunlight and prevent excess heat from entering your home. If your curtains aren’t up to the task of keeping heat out, you may want to try switching to blackout curtains for some extra help.
Open windows on opposite sides of your home to promote cross-ventilation and allow fresh air to flow through your living spaces. This might provide the most benefit in the early morning or evening hours.
Switch to lightweight and breathable bedding materials like cotton or bamboo to help you stay cooler at night. Linen is another material of bedding that has been used to keep you cool at night for centuries.
Apply ice packs or cold compresses to your pulse points, like wrists, neck, and ankles, to cool down quickly. This is useful to do after you get in from gardening and need to cool off fast.
Being exposed to direct heat and sun can be dangerous during these really hot days. Set up umbrellas, canopies, or shade sails in your outdoor spaces to create comfortable areas for relaxation.
Once the sun goes down, so do the stifling temperatures. Take advantage of cooler nighttime temperatures by opening windows to allow fresh air to cool your home naturally.
Hopefully you find these tips helpful. Put some of them to use and stay cool!
