Items You Should Never Put In the Washing Machine

Pet Hair Covered Items

Cuddling with your pets is one of life’s comforts, but they can leave a lot of stray hairs behind on your clothes when you're done. Be sure to run a lint roller over pet hair covered clothes and blankets before tossing them in the washing machine in order to prevent drain clogs.

Jumbo Items

Stuffing large comforters in your washing machine or over filling it can lead to broken agitators and misaligned drums. Additionally, when items are too large for the machine, they cannot freely move about the drum and therefore they cannot get fully cleaned.

Natural Fabrics

Many all-natural fabrics cannot handle the washing machine. Materials like wool, cashmere, silk, leather, and suede will all become misshapen or lose their integrity if placed in the washing machine.

Memory Foam

Memory foam pillows and mattress toppers are a delight, but the same thing that makes them comfortable makes them incompatible with washing machines. Due to their open cell structure, they absorb water like a sponge. This causes them to be quite heavy, and then when the spin cycle turns on, they end up breaking apart. If you want to save your memory foam from meeting this fate, spot clean them instead.

Embellished Items

And lastly, embellished items should never go inside your washing machine. Sequins and gems are delicate pieces that can be ripped off during the washing cycle. Then these loose bits can get tangled in other garments and tear holes into them. To keep your garments in beautiful condition, refrain from machine washing them.
