Landscaping Your Home this Spring

Ripple Creek Homes has chosen to build their homes around beautiful nature. With trees and a lake nearby, there is always somewhere peaceful and quiet nearby for when you need to get away. Nature has a way of bringing peace and calm into our lives naturally, but it takes energy and effort to arrange and care for nature in a way that makes it look like a paradise. So, while we do build homes around nature, we always encourage homeowners to make their own paradise around their home. We want to go through some basic tips and tricks for your home that will allow for your own paradise to grow and thrive.

Sprinkler Heads

They always seem to get busted one way or another throughout the years. Or sometimes they work perfectly fine, but they are pointing in the wrong direction or are tilted so bad that nothing is getting watered like it should be. Once you have gotten past your last snow or freeze, it is then time to turn your sprinklers on to get the grass turning green and lush again. When you turn then on, turn them on by zone and then take the time to inspect each one of them. Make sure there isn’t anything stuck in the opening that would cause the water to not fan out evenly as it should. If the water isn’t fanning take a thin piece of metal and clear the slit. If that seems to be fine, then it’s the filter inside the head that is dirt and needs to be cleaned. Additionally, make sure it is pointing in the right direction and that it’s not tilted in any way. If you have a hard lean or tilt to one of them, it is best to dig up the dirt around it enough to set it straight and then fill the space back in. Finally, clear a space about 1/4” around sprinkler to ensure that nothing will inhibit it from popping up and block the water from getting to the rest of your grass.

Fertilizing

When it comes to your grass it might need a bit of help throughout the year to help it grow and look healthy. Fertilizing is one of the best ways to ensure the health of your grass. This can be very tricky though because too much can burn it, leaving you with patches of dead grass. It is very important to make sure that you follow the directions on the bag so that this doesn’t happen. Additionally, you’re going to want to make sure that you grab a fertilizer bag that will help your grass top to grow. Winter is when you want the roots to grow and summer when you want the top to grow.
