Fix These Three Common Household Annoyances with Ease

As your home becomes lived in, it is bound to develop little scars and funky quirks. Noisy floorboards, abused baseboards, slow-draining sinks. Little things like these may not need to be fixed right away but living with them day to day may end up driving you crazy. Don’t let little things like these drive you to the brink of insanity! Here are a few simple fixes for them that take no time at all.

Sinks That Are Slow to Drain

Slow draining sinks are frustrating, and they leave messes behind when they do finally clear. Without a proper draining sink, toothpaste and gunk do not get washed away as they should. As frustrating as this experience is, the solution is often pretty simple. You can loosen up whatever is clogging your drain with a vinegar-baking soda combo. Start by removing the grate or whatever drain covering your sink has. Sprinkle half a cup of baking soda down the drain. Follow that by pouring half a cup of white vinegar down the drain next. You will notice that it will begin to bubble. That’s a good sign that it is working. After a few minutes, flush the drain with warm water. After that, you should have free flowing drains again.

Baseboards That Are Beat Up

Accidents happen! When you have kids and pets running around or as you rearrange the furniture, baseboards are bound to take a beating. If daily life has left its mark on your baseboards, you can bring them back to good condition in no time. All you need is to fill nicks and gouges with wood putty, sand smooth once the putty is dry, and then paint the repairs the same color as the rest of the baseboards. Good as new!

Floorboards That Creak

Creaky floorboards can make it hard to sneak a midnight snack and they can also be just downright annoying. Creaky floorboards can be easy to silence, however. Because creaks are caused by floorboards rubbing together, all you need to do is put a buffer between the boards. Baby powder is a cheap and easy way to quiet noisy floors. Simply sprinkle a bit of baby powder between the cracks of the floorboards. As it settles into the seams, it will prevent the boards from making contact with one another. Silence at last.

If any of these things have been slowly driving you mad, why not take a few minutes to fix them? All these solutions are fast, easy, and worth a try.
